My name is John Fowler and I have challenged myself to a 240k trek through the Costa Rican rainforest at the end of November. This difficult task will be in aid of ThumbsUpForHarvey which is a fundraising campaign set-up in memory of Harvey McCabe who sadly passed away at the age of 2 in 2014, due to a life limiting condition called MLD. The campaign is actively fundraising to build a new sensory room in Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.

The very prospect of sharing a tent with bugs, spiders, possible snakes, frogs and Lizards whilst trekking Coast to Coast across Costa Rica would be enough to make most of us think why!! As well as the 240k walk, there will also be a 2400m volcano climb thrown into the mix. All of this will be in aid of a much needed facility in the children's ward of Daisy Hill Hospital.

The sensory room will be an allocated room in Daisy Hill for children and their families to use as a means of time out and making the most of time in hospital. The room will be uniquely designed to suit children of all abilities and specialised equipment will be provided. In order to make this sensory room as useful and helpful as possible, funding is required to buy the best possible equipment. Through giving children a sense of joy and happiness during their time in hospital, Harvey's memory will be alive.
