Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Newill Academy Crowd Funding page
To show our support and raise much needed funds for the Newill Academy a team of us 'the Sharp Shifters' are taking part in the Leeds Total Warrior 2018 on Saturday 23 June 2018.
The Sharp Shifters..
Our 'Sharp Shifters' team is made up of the HR team (Sarah Coates, William Colgate, Hardeep Sanotra and Brendan Megaw from Hudson who leads our recruitment) and Paul Kelly from the CSR Working Group.
We will be completing a gruelling 12km race with 25 punishing obstacles - through water, fire and lots of mud!!!
We would be very grateful for any donation you can make – it will help us get through the day knowing we are doing this for such a worthwhile cause!
A bit about why we are doing this....
Newill Academy opened in 2010 when William Newman, SBS Customer Support Engineer, previously a Ghanaian teacher, set up a pre-school on land he owned in Koforidua in Ghana. His aim was to provide education and support for local children from disadvantaged backgrounds, mainly children of market sellers and street vendors.
The school works on a non-profit basis, students pay a minimal amount to cover teacher’s salaries, the school bus and a daily meal. With a lack of structured financial support the Academy faces ongoing challenges.
SBS chose Newill Academy as one of our key charities as it aligns with our goal of supporting causes which ‘Enrich Young Lives’. The Academy will be part of our CSR events calendar and we’ll support William and the school on an ongoing basis through fundraising, awareness and donation s.
Any donation you make will be greatly received. We will update you on how the money will be used - as well as showing you some photos of how we got on at the event! Thank you, from the Sharp Shifters.

6 years agoWe did it! We all completed the 12km course & 25 very challenging obstacle courses whilst covered in mud!! We would all like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who contributed and supported us! The money will go directly to Newill Academy & will help with completing the flooring of the first floor of the school. Newill Academy Administrator, Gifty Oduro, told us “this money will go towards buying the remaining iron rods and cement to enable us to complete the first floor concrete slab. Everyone’s support is very much appreciated”.
