The Jewish cemetery in Trebic has existed for roughly 400 years. We were lucky enough to discover that some of our ancestors were buried here and were able to visit the graves and reconnect with our past. Whilst the cemetery is beautiful in its current state there is a problem - many of the graves are overgrown with ivy and so are impossible to identify. We were so grateful to be able to see our ancestral graves and we thought it would be a terrible shame that anyone should miss out on something so important because ivy has prevented the identification of their loved ones' graves.

The Jewish community in Brno has done a fantastic job to care for the cemetery here, especially in the wake of the neglect it faced after Nazi occupation - and we have been in contact with them to find out how we could help resolve the ivy problem. They informed us that they would be willing to hire a specialist to come and carefully remove the ivy in the summer and that it would cost them roughly £2,000 to do so. Given the amount of work that would go into carefully uncovering these graves this figure seems fair to us and so we are looking to our family and to our friends in the community to help us reach this goal!

We are hoping to return there next fall to see the work completed and we will be sure to share pictures of the results of everyone's contributions to the cause.
