Story
WE ARE REACHING OUT FOR HELPFUL DONATIONS to KEEP UNIT 1 PARK WORKS SKATE PARK OPEN, DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS WHEN RIDERS ARE USING OUTDOOR FACILITIES and WE DO NOT MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY THE BILLS.
Further information about our cause...
Unit 1 Park Works is a not-for-profit indoor skate park, designed and built by 3 local lads who've been skateboarders for over 10 years. The riding community in Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding areas have grown up without a local indoor facility to practice their beloved sport, meaning when the weather was unsuitable to ride outdoors, they would have to travel a minimum of 37 miles to access an indoor facility.
We built Unit 1, to give the local youth a safe, sheltered and supervised arena to practice and advance in their sport and interact with like-minded people, also to encourage as many young people as possible to participate in a physical activity that is unique and benefits their physical health and well-being as well as excellent social interactions. We have developed a good relationship with hundreds of riders and their families in the community and support our local young athlete's as they progress in their mission to make their sport a career.
After several unsuccessful attempts to receive government funding to build an indoor skate park in Stoke-on-Trent, Unit 1 was thankfully funded by a selfless and generous family member, who sacrificed her entire life saving and the proceeds from the sale of her house to pay for the build of what is now a treasured and highly appreciated facility.
Some riders and their families who regularly depend on us, use the skate park all year round, continuing to support us through the summer months, however the majority are understandably enjoying the good weather. Unfortunately, there is never enough income during the spring and summer months to cover the running costs of the skate park, meaning for the last 3 years we have relied on small donations from local families and business' and have even borrowed money from family members to prevent closure. Our staff have worked voluntarily every summer that we have been open and are happy to continue to do so, as they are committed to sustaining this venue that they've worked so hard to create. This year we are unable to borrow money to help get us through, so we are hopefully relying on people who are willing to generously donate to help keep Unit 1 open for the enthusiastic and dedicated youth and adults who rely on us in the autumn and winter months.
We will continue to seek grants from funding organisations in order to build and improve the facilities that we already have, but nothing guaranteed. Eventually we hope to offer free coaching in primary school and even organise after-school clubs.
Please consider us and donate whatever you can afford to, we would greatly appreciate any help that anyone is willing to offer...
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
