Story
Helping my friend get the most out of school
It's my 7th birthday! Last year, many of you helped me raise enough money to sponsor my new friend, Joshua, for four years at Destiny Garden School in Kenya. You raised way more than my fundraising goal! I still can't thank you enough!
For those of you who didn't come to my party last year, this is the link to my fundraising activity last year: Sponsoring my new friend on my 6th birthday
I've been so happy to do this. I have everything I need, and I really can't think of anything I'd like more than to help Joshua and his friends have a fantastic time at school.
The Destiny Children charity has a list of gifts that would really make the children happy.
I have gone on three school trips in just one term! I want Joshua's class to have the chance to learn through wonderful experiences too. So I have saved up my pocket money to sponsor a trip to the museum for Joshua and his class. - Valerio
Gifts that make a difference
Maybe there is something on the list below that you might like the children to have. The gifts can also be tailored based on how much you'd like to donate. You could also team up with someone else to donate something jointly. The list is only a guide:
1. Toys: £10 will buy educational toys for the kindergarten
2. Library Books: £12 will buy five new books for the school library.
3. Writing tools: £12 will provide pencils, sharpeners and erasers for an entire class.
4.Exercise Books: £15 will buy exercise books for each child in a class
5. Beans: £20 will add beans to the midday meal for the whole school for a day
6. Sports Equipment: £25 will buy sports equipment to help with the children’s physical education
7. Text Books: £30 will buy three textbooks; ones that are relevant to the Kenyan education curriculum
8. Fruit: £30 will provide all the children with a piece of seasonal fruit, an orange or a banana, for a special lunch
9. Fish: £30 will maintain the school fish farm for a week; the fish provide a nutritious lunch
10. Desks: £40 will buy a three-seater desk made by the local carpenter
11. Lunch: £75 will provide all 470 children with a school lunch for two Days
12. Museum: £90 will pay for the children in one class to take an educational trip to the Mombasa Museum. (I'm doing this one for my friend's class!)
13. Educate a Child: £180 will educate a child for a whole academic year
14. Running costs: Maybe you just want to make a contribution towards the general running costs of the school
What happens next
The academic year at Destiny Garden School has just ended. The pupils will now have a long break for 2 months, and they'll return to school in the new academic year, which starts in January.
When they return, the charity will send us photos of the gifts that you have bought the children.
Please be sure to include your name and what gift you would like the children to receive, when you add to the crowdfunding. Just Giving does not give me the names of the people who donate. So let me know who you are, so I'll be able to give you an update about your gift in the new year.

I'm a lucky boy who has most of the things I need. I'd like to help other children who might be living in much more difficult circumstances.
