    Story

As you may know, my husband spent the last weeks of his life in the Macmillan Palliative Care Unit at Christchurch hospital, after a two year battle with colon cancer. They have been working hard to raise money for a new unit, which is badly needed.

Last week, we set up this site in order to raise funds to bid on a charity EBay auction run by Macmillan Cares Locally, where the winning bidder would have their loved one's name displayed in a donated fireworks display at Bournemouth Pier on 20 October at the event called Light Up the Prom.

We are thrilled to announce that because of the overwhelming response from so many friends, family and fans of John Wetton, Macmillan Cares Locally decided to give the award to the Wetton family so that John's name will light up the sky in honour of those who have been touched by cancer and other serious illness.

But we are not done yet. This is only the begining of the fundraising journey, as Macmillan is working hard to raise £4 million in order to build a new palliative care unit which will offset the burden of the massive increase in referrals in the Dorset area. The Macmillan nurses cared for John at home for weeks following up to his admission into the unit. They made is final weeks of life dignified and comfortable, and the carers support was excellent. We couldnt have made this journey without them, and so its our hope that we can be instrumental in meeting their fundraising goals so that others can also receive the same high standard of care.

Please give generously to remember the excellent care that was given to our beloved John Wetton. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support.

See you at Light Up the Prom

    Love from,

Dylan, Robert, Peggy, and Lisa xx

I hope you'll help me win for John and for Macmillan Cares Locally. ❤️

UPDATE: Well, we did it. Since my last post, MacMillan Cares Locally decided that with such a huge amount of money being raised for the charity auction, and still 6 days to go, the auction was ended and they've awarded the name in lights to the Wetton family! We couldn't have done it without you. So give yourselves a round of applause, because on 20 October, John's name will light the skies of Bournemouth on behalf of all who are effected with cancer. We still want you to keep donating on John's behalf, so the page will stay up. Updates soon.

Good morning. It has been a very exciting 24 hours, as the donations just keep coming. I woke up to yet another exceeded goal, and so many lovely comments which have warmed my heart. I've upped the goal once again knowing that the money will be going to the organisation that helped John and me in the weeks leading to his passing. Thank you all, and keep sharing the posts...onward and upward. xx

Well, this has been touching for sure. In just two hours we exceeded the goal, and it keeps climbing. That's good, as all money goes directly to Macmillan Cares Locally for their compassionate work with the sick and dying. Thanks to everyone who donated out of the kindness of their heart, and if you still want to donate, by all means, keep it coming! I've got 7 days before the auction ends, and the crowdfunding site will remain up for a little longer. Macmillan thanks you! ❤️
