My name is Yasmin and I am 16 years old.
This summer, from 21st July until 18th August, I am taking part in an expedition to Peru where I will be meeting the local people and helping to improve their communities through activities such as building school foundations and greenhouses. Many Peruvian people have a very difficult life which is so different to mine. I have quite a privileged life and so do most of the people around me. I believe that as well as helping people in Peru it will be really good for me to experience a different kind of life so that when I come home I can view my life in a better, more grateful way.
Part of this whole experience is to try and raise the monies required to fund this expedition and over the last year I have been doing lots of different activities to raise money.
After watching a TV programme a few years ago about children with Cancer, I have often thought of donating my long hair to the Children’s Charity, The LITTLE PRINCESS TRUST to be used to make wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer. I have had long hair since I was little but haven’t yet had the courage to cut it all off. However, my Peru trip has given me the incentive to do this. I have now made the decision (no going back now!!) to cut off 12” of my hair for this fantastic Charity.
