Hello Friends,

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page for Cycle Sri Lanka.

In February I'm getting on my bike … and for seven days I'll be riding from the high tea plantations in the centre of Sri Lanka down to the south coast.

It’s going to be tough (!) and a really exciting challenge for me, not least because I'm raising much needed funds for Rainforest Rescue International / Rainforest Concern in Sri Lanka. That's the bit I need your help with now!

Even £5 or £10 or £20 can make a big difference - but please give as much as you can and help me bust through my target of £1000!

Sri Lanka's rainforests are amongst the top ten biodiversity ‘hotspots’ in the world but they are also are under extreme pressure from unsustainable agriculture – particularly ever-expanding oil palm plantations that encroach on the rainforest.

RRI's work focuses on environmental restoration and education, training families in organic farming, running school programmes on forest fauna, and supporting communities to manage their environment and resources sustainably.

I'm very excited about doing the ride and raising funds for RRI. I’ll be sure to take some photos so you can see what I get up to and where your hard-earned cash is going to be put to work.

Finally, please be reassured that the whole cost of my trip is covered by me and the whole of your donation will support conservation. I've also offset the emissions from the flight to Sri Lanka through Climate Care.

Thanks again for your support.

Justin

RAINFOREST RESCUE INTERNATIONAL & RAINFOREST CONCERN PARTNERSHIP

Rainforest Rescue International was set up in 2002 after 5 years of collaboration with Rainforest Concern to initiate a programme to conserve, protect and rebuild the rainforests of Sri Lanka by creating a buffer zone and corridor project around the 2 largest remaining rainforest patches of Sri Lanka, the Sinharaja and Kanneliya Forest Reserves. Since then, it has set up an indigenous tree nursery, built an Education Centre for school children, purchased 6.4 acres of land adjacent to Kanneliya for the proposed Hiniduma Forest Reserve, begun a programme of reforestation for this land, and much more.
