We all know someone affected by cancer and the statistics as to its incidence in the North West of England are particularly significant and concerning. Having met the specialists and seen their passion for the new Clatterbridge Cancer Centre being built in the heart of Liverpool and the difference it will make to cancer sufferers in my home area and the rest of the UK , I feel driven to help in whatever way I can to see this realised. Help me help them get it built.

The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre is one of the UK’s top performing hospitals and delivers cancer treatment to a population of 2.3m across the greater Merseyside and Cheshire regions and is home to the only Proton Therapy Treatment facility in the UK offering a range of care, including pioneering therapies and clinical trials to over 30,000 individual patients which equates to around 220,000 episodes of care, making Clatterbridge one of the country’s largest networked cancer treatment providers in the country.

 

The Trust has recently embarked on an ambitious project to transform cancer care by expanding its services into the heart of Liverpool - building a brand new cancer hospital alongside Liverpool University and the re-developed Royal Liverpool. This facility, Liverpool’s first dedicated cancer hospital, will put the service at the centre of the population it serves making access to life-saving treatments even closer.

 

 

If the rate of cancer deaths in the region fell in line with the national average, a further 589 lives could be saved each year.
