Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

As most of you will be aware I ran the London Marathon in April 08 for the first time for Prostate Cancer, to raise awareness of male cancers after my father-in-law suffered from a different male related cancer. At a similar time, the end of 2006, my step-dad Frank was diagnosed with lung cancer, and seemed to be succesfully treated throughout 2007. I decided to run the Marathon '1 More Time' on behalf of him and the treatment he had received, and also for personal achievement. I choose the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as, like Roy was, Frank is a non-smoker, but has been affected by this disease none-the-less.

Franks lung cancer recently returned, however we had great news as during the biopsy, through keyhole surgery, the surgeon was able to see both nodes which were believed to be cancerous. He was able to take this area as the biopsy, and effectively remove both nodes. Testing has shown they were cancerous.

This means now Frank won't currently require any treatment, so Christmas has regained its sparkle, and so has Frank. There's no gaurantees it won't return, his next scan though isn't while Feb '09, but its great news for the time being, and puts a positive outlook back on life.

Before this I've always been sceptical of lung cancer, and attributed it mostly through direct smoking, however now it is clearer the effects passive smoking also have. Once again I'd like to do my small bit to raise awareness, and assist in raising funds to develop research for cures and education.

Hopefully you can help by sponsoring me, not only for the 26.2 miles I'll run on the day, but the determination to pound the streets for the next 26 weeks, covering above 20 miles each week. I'll update you all weekly as to my progress.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Paper donations are welcome, but experience shows a nightmare to collect in to be honest!

So please sponsor me now!
