Story

Update:  Winds were a tad too strong today, so we're fully trained and ready to jump in the morning: -11 at 12,000 in case you were wondering!

Jennie and David are going to jump out of a plane.
And they are both rather scared. Jennie is afraid she’ll forget how to open her parachute and David is frightened of falling like a stone from a very great height to begin with.

But Jennie and David have both just worked together on the new Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity fundraising magazine Lifeline. When they looked at all the good work being done at the hospital and how much more there is that still needs to be done, they realised that being brave was a more remarkable and everyday experience than many of us realise.

Jennie actually works full time for the charity, so she knows intimately how brave the children undergoing treatment at Great Ormond Street have to be every day of their lives. So Jennie and David have decided to do something that requires – at least from their feeble selves – a real effort of bravery.

Trust us, neither one of us is anything other than terrified at the thought of ‘accelerated freefall’ – jumping out of a small plane at 10,000 feet, unattached to anyone else, and skydiving to 5,000 feet before frantically pulling at a parachute release and landing inexpertly a few minutes later on the frosty Norfolk countryside. If you would help us reach (and maybe exceed) our target for donations, the ordeal will be worthwhile – and the lives of some fabulously brave children at the hospital will be improved by raising much-needed funds.

Thank you. Very much.
