We support people to help rebuild lives after stroke.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

In 2008 my Nan suffered 2 strokes, the second left her very ill and in hospital for some time.  She is still recovering and is now thankfully out of hospital.

Every year an estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke. Of all people who suffer from a stroke, about a third are likely to die within the first 10 days, about a third are likely to make a recovery within one month and about a third are likely to be left disabled and needing rehabilitation. Stroke has a greater disability impact than any other medical condition. A quarter of a million people are living with long-term disability as a result of stroke in the UK.

The Stroke Association is the only UK wide charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages. It funds research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and helps stroke patients and their families directly through its Rehabilitation and Support Services. These include Communication Support, Family and Carer Support, information services and welfare grants. They also campaign, educate and inform to increase knowledge of stroke at all levels of society, and we act as a voice for everyone affected by stroke.

Following my Nan's Stroke and learning more about this ailment, I decided to run the 2009 London marathon.  I am doing this for a variety of reasons, in recognition of the daily struggle my Nan and other stroke sufferers have to endure, to raise monies and awareness of Stroke and for a personal challenge.  I last ran a marathon in 2005 vowing never again in a time of 3 hours 16 mins!  For my sins, I'm here again and hoping to run faster.  I have been training hard ; up to 5 times a week so have little social life anymore!

I know the credit crunch is biting but would appreciate any donation you can make.  Stroke is a very real and could well affect you or a family / friend one day.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Stroke Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
