Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Throughout Laurie's illness he spent many months in the Royal Marsden hospitals at both Chelsea and Sutton. It was at the Sutton hospital where he passed away on 30th May after a tremendously brave battle with Liposarcoma. Despite his chronic pain, he never once complained.
The last few weeks of his life were made more bearable by the specialist staff and facilities on site, the latter are largely provided through public donations. When you become immobile through illness and dependant on others, modified equipment is essential to allow you to enjoy simple pleasures, like taking a bath, which we would otherwise take for granted. Facilities for relatives spending many hours/days with their loved ones as they near the end of their lives are also crucial to the quality of time spent in hospital. These are only possible with appropriate resources.
We would like to be able to support the Palliative care unit on Chevallier Ward at Sutton and help others who will unfortunately share our experience in the future. Although Laurie could not be cured, his pain was controlled and the care and consideration extended by all staff to both Laurie and our family was exceptional.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
