We have now done it!!! Mixed emotions and a very difficult yet rewarding experience. We both got food poisoning at 4000m and the altitude really kicked in for us then too. Unfortuanetly in view of this, Craigs diabetes played against him and he had to turn back with only 2 hrs to go. I managed to scrape the bottom of my energy barrell and managed it to Base Camp. The enclosed photos show Craig & I in front of Everest and my and my sherpa at Base camp. WHat an experience!!! Thank you for all your support.
Craig & I are flying to Katmandu on 1st May 2010 to embark on our climb to Everest base camp. (we were originally scheduled to go 19th April but the volcanic ash worked against us!!). This is a climb of approx 18 000 feet taking 16 days; trekking approx 6 to 8 hours per day. It will be both a physical and mental challenge and we wanted to ensure we were doing it, not only as a personal challenge, but to help a worthy charity.
My Dad died in March 2006 of cancer and Christys were incredibly supportive during this difficult time. They ensured Dad was comfortable and had privacy in his final hours and also gave us a tremendous amount of support during this time. We want to give something back to Christys who in addition to providing a supportive environment for cancer patients, also do a tremendous amount of work for cancer research.
We are appreciative of any donations - every little bit helps and will spur us on when we are finding it tough, as i am sure we will!
