On 18 June 2009 I will be saddling up and taking part in a challenge of a lifetime riding a small pony across Mongolia to raise funds for HorseWorld.

My horse Fella, a ¾ bred Arab, has been with me since the age of 6 months – he’s now the grand age of 30!  He’s the love of my life and very precious.  We’ve done so much together its hard to think about him not being part of my world. 

When you haven’t got anyone else to tell your troubles to horses like Fella are always there to listen without judgment but always with understanding.  You know you will have a friend by your side to give you as much trust, love and respect as you need.  They can be a life changer!

At HorseWorld, I have seen that other people, young and old, have discovered how horses can help to change their lives, like Matthew who joined the HorseWorld’s Community Scheme in 2006 having been a long-term truant because of bullying.  Missing school led Matthew into lots of trouble – fighting and bullying others – and ultimately in trouble with the Police. 

An opportunity to work with the horses, ponies and donkeys at HorseWorld enabled Matthew to be somewhere he liked to go; because of the hard work involved with looking after animals he soon discovered that you don’t have time to get bored and the results of his hard work rewarded him with the love and respect he’d been looking for.

Through his commitment and determination Matthew was placed at a prestigious British Racing School to continue his work with horses which had been his Grandad’s dream and something Matthew could aim to achieve.
By taking part in this challenge I aim to raise much needed funds to help other young people achieve the same as Matthew and many others who have been helped by HorseWorld.
