Story

Post-Race Message (06/10/08)

We did it!

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored us and offered words of encouragement in the lead up to the run.  Thanks also to those people who are looking at the site and planning to sponsor us now that we have completed our personal challenge.

The day was sunny and just perfect for running in as we joined the masses getting ready to do the run from Newcastle to South Shields. Before we knew it we were off and running and the miles just seemed to fly past.  The atmosphere for the whole run was just amazing and we both feel a real sense of achievement in completing the course in times we can personally be proud of.  Catherine was the first across the finish line (out of the pair of us) in a time of 2 hours 14 minutes whilst Bridget followed closely behind with a time of 2 hours 33 minutes.

As a thank you, the RNLI North East fundraising manager treated us to a ride across the river to Tynemouth in the RNLI RIB (inflatable boat - see picture) and then gave us a lift back to Catherine’s aunt’s where we had spent the night. Thank you RNLI for rescuing us from having to stand in long queues at the Metro Station.

Once again a very big thank you goes out to everyone who gave to this cause.  The final offline amount will be updated over the next few days but we have definitely exceeded our initial target.

Cheers everyone!

Love
Bridget and Catherine
xx

Pre-Race Message

Hi there from Bridget and Catherine! Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

We are both active members of the Carlisle Sub-aqua Club and came up with the bright idea that we would like to raise money for the RNLI as they do so much.  This got us to thinking what we could do ........... and as we both celebrate a certain birthday this year (not saying which one) we thought we were up to the challenge of the Great North Run.

Training has started in earnest for both of us and we are sacrificing so much - a fun dive weekend in the Farne Islands on the day of the race for starters!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!

RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.
