We provide specialist, expert care to local people when there is no cure.

Story

14 of us have decided to run in the Great North Run in October, this is not a combined mid-life crises or an attempt to prove that we are still the athlete of our early twenties! But an effort to try and raise £50,000 for Dove House Hospice.

We have all been touched by the work that Dove House does and the support they have given in looking after two of East Yorkshires finest ladies in their final days.

But we also learnt that they provide this wonderful service with “ONLY 91 DAYS” funding from the government. Dove House has to find £4.5 Million each and every year to fund the day to day running costs.

we would  very much like you to sponsor us and to give you some idea of the effect your money can have:-

£100 buys a day of complimentary therapy for a patient

£500 buys a bed and care for a patient for one day

£1000 buys specialist doctors for the unit for a day.

Below we have highlighted the runners and some of their attributes!!

Rod Scutt - Read all the books, has the diet plan, watched the videos but still likely to run like a big girls blouse, currently injured with a pulled hamstring getting the excuses in early.Likely to be slow and steady but will make the distance.

Nick Sangwin - Still harping back to his Sedbergh days and the 10 mile run over the hills of the lake District , we keep reminding him that was over 20 years ago. currently managed once round Swanland. Will that early pedigree come through, I doubt it!

Jono Scutt - Still thinks he is 18 years old and will be able to just turn up and run! bound to be late to the start with the most inappropriate running gear. Luckly for him Jess is also running so a chance he may be organised??If he trained may be good has  £10 bet to beat Needler some chance!!

Ed Sweeting - Came late to the party but has shown good form on other charity events that invloved a bike, always likely to be commited but may be lacking in any real talent.

James Sweeting - Dark horse in more ways than one! , part of the flatlands inbreads, should get his Coutts and Co cheque book open for some sponsorship. may have some actual talent, one to watch.

Jessica Scutt - Adding some much needed glamour, Multi-Lingual,intelligent a wonderful cook and according to Jono a wonderful lover!!! One to watch as with all these skills is bound to be leading the way.

Mark Parkes - More use to the rowing lakes of Radley, not sure how he will take to these uncouth Geordies, may well give a good showing if the niggling injuries he keeps telling us about clear up!

Mark Eggleston- Sporting prowess of recent times has been restricted to the Royal Yorkshire yacht club , although more time is usually spent in the bar then on the high seas. Not a known runner but bound to put in a good shift and make it round but not likely to offer any real challenge to the front runners!

Katie Sangwin - Adding more glamour, a Junior Wimbledon 1/4 finalist in 1988 so has real athletic pedigree and bound to beat most of these overweight men!

Richard Thompson - 5' 7" and 9 stone wet through this boy has real athletic pedigree and a veteran of 3 times on the Newcastle course with a PB of 1.24 definately the one to watch.

Tom Martin - Louise has insisted that the life insurance is topped up before training commences. Tom has form over the distance having completed the course once before, he insists that this time he is not going to partake in the" go faster ale" offered by some enterprising Geordies at the 11 mile mark.

Alistair Needler - Will be representing the Conservative party as the David Cameron lookalike, has been over the distance once before but likely to be all talk as usual!!

Lindsay West - Was meant to be running last year but chickened out. Has the same physique as Richard Thompson but it remains to be seen if he has the same running or drinking ability!!!

James Needler - May struggle to make the starting line up with Elizabeth due 2 weeks before ,has scheduled to do the Lockington half marathon in early September but may end up doing both!

So those are the runners please give generously to support us and more importantly to support Dove House hospice.
