Story

Duncan, Tim and Dean will be walking 50 miles over two days from Shorne County Park to Canterbury, between 29th to 30th May, 2010.  In July, 2010, we will also be doing the Three Peaks Challenge in 24hrs (for those of you who don't know, this involves climbing the three highest peaks in the UK in 24hrs).  We are doing this to raise money for an old friend's daughter, Stella Rogers.

At just 17 months, Stella was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer known as Neuroblastoma MYC-N amplified (high risk), originating from her adrenal gland.  At the time of diagnosis the cancer had grown to a huge size in her belly, which to treat has required 70 days of aggressive chemotherapy; major surgery to remove the primary tumour, a stem cell rescue that wipes out her bone marrow, three weeks of radio therapy and six months of oral chemotherapy.

The treatment is harsh, but it needs to be.  Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive cancer that affects children, is one of the leading causes of deaths in the under-fives.  The disease, which can be difficult to spot initially, is triggered by abnormally developing nerve cells in young children.

She now requires expensive antibody thereapy that is only available in the USA.  This treatment is to ensure she doesn't suffer a relapse, which is all too common in this type of cancer.

Fortunately 2simple Trust provided a loan to Stella's family to pay the deposit for the cost of the treatment, but we still need to raise £250,000.

Please sponsor us for either or both of our challenges.  Your support would make a big difference.

Thanks,

Duncan, Tim and Dean

About the charity

The 2Simple Trust helps families of children suffering from neuroblastoma. Help is given by the provision of financial assistance for treatment and other needs as well as the funding of research into the disease. This work will shortly be transferred to a new charity set up specifically for the purpose and called The Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance.
