Update: Last week we successfully completed our charity bike ride from Dusseldorf to London. The ride, raising money for Cancer Research UK took us 5 days to complete, taking us through Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France and of course England.

Everything went fairly smoothly, although we did hit a few problems on the way such as having a few punctures (Jack won with a grand total of 4), getting a ticking off from a Dutch policeman for going through a red light (Jack's fault), Dan getting clipped by a car and Rob and Gemma getting lost after the first 20 miles, but other than that it was pretty successful!

You'll be pleased to see that the estimated total raised will be just over the target of £5,000, and with the 28% gift aid that Mr Brown donates to charities, it will be more in the region of £6,000, so thank you all very much for your kind donations!!! Thank you to everyone who has kindly supported us over the last 6 months with this trip, and a special thank you to Mary and Brian, who without their kind generosity, wouldn't have made this trip possible. Also a big thank you also to Rob and Gemma who were a massive help along the journey. Any ideas for a similar event in 2011?!

 

On the 10th August (it does say the 15th at the top but it can't be changed), we're going to attempt to cycle around 400 miles from Dusseldorf, Germany to London to raise much needed money and awareness to the much deserved charity Cancer Research UK.

The gruelling journey will take us through 5 countries - Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France and England. 

As you may or may not know that I lost my Dad to Cancer at the start of last year and Nic's mum lost her long battle with breast cancer recently. Without the excellent work that Cancer Research UK, many others would have lost their loved ones, however there is still plenty needed to be done to beat this horrible disease.

A few facts about cancer:

There are 49 types of cancer, cutting short over 150,000 lives a year in the UK

More than one in four deaths in the UK are by cancer

Deaths from cancers of the lung, bowel, breast and prostate together account for 47% of all cancer deaths

In 2006, over 300,000 were diagnosed with cancer in the UK

So please, please, please make a donation and help us to prevent more people becoming a statistic
