Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 12 April, I'm running my first marathon. In Brighton. I've chosen to raise funds for Mind. Mental health continues to be a poor relation when it comes to well-being. Although we know that 1 in 4 people suffer from mental ill-health at some point in their lives, people often find it difficult to seek support - and to get the right support when they need it. And then there's the stigma still surrounding mental health; eg with the media quick to perpetuate the stereotype of the 'dangerous nutter'. Doesn't make it easy for people to say 'I need some help coping.'
I've had support from Southend Mind myself; being referred to their excellent 'Beating the Blues' CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) programme. Furthermore, having worked closely with the local branch professionally, I'm also aware of the great work they do; outreach, PTSD, the REASON project with black and Asian communities and much much more.
Although I'm fundraising for the national Mind charity, they have generously said that, if I raise more than £500, I will be able to direct the extra funds to the Southend Branch.
