Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As most of you are aware this year is the 10th Anniversary of the loss of someone we all thought the world of, Eddie Gregg. Those that knew Eddie would describe him as a fun, intelligent, athletic, sporting individual who was a kind, caring, family orientated young man who was tragically taken far too young, losing his battle with Leukaemia on the 28th August 2000.To mark this milestone of 10 years past, Eddie's close friends have decided to test themselves and honour his name by cycling from Ashton Gate Football ground in Bristol, Eddies home town, to Loughborough University, the place they all became friends, with the hope of raising loads and loads of cash for Leukaemia Research.
The select few consist of Eddies's Loughborough Football Club friends Liam Kane, Joe Whibley, Lee Margerison, Tony Strudwick, Chris Jones, Tom Curtis and Chris Kerr
They have set themselves a target of completing the 140 miles by bike in two days over the 2nd bank holiday weekend in May, 30/31st.
Now bearing in mind these boys aren't as young as they used to be, hip replacements, children, wives, a few extra pounds etc, all takes it out of you... they will be pushing themselves hard to achieve their goal, and would really like to see that it's all been worthwhile by watching the donations mount up from you guys!
Support teams are already in place, Liam's parents following along with a car, drinks and spare bikes, then there's Donna following en route with the defibrillator!! Media interest is also mounting with talk of coverage being aired on Manchester United TV. So it's your chance to do your bit and put those hands in pockets to show you care.
As well as this historic event, the boys will be taking part in the Annual Charity 5 aside football tournament that the Loughborough Alumini have organised for the last ten years. This event has attracted new fresh faced and fresh legged students much to the concern of the old Loughborough heros. But all who return do so with vigour and enthusiasm year in year out to support such a worthwhile cause, as well as take the opportunity to reminisce with about friends, with friends.
This year the event is going to be bigger and better to mark the 10th Anniversary. So if you are an old Loughborough hero who hasn't quite made the last few years - or never been before and think this is your year to do your bit, then the date this year is June 12th, come along run the line, play on the pitch, join us for a beer or just come for the laughs, what ever you do, bring your wallet so we can help you lighten it.
I hope to see you there, or see your name on this page supporting, hell.....do both!!!!
Thanks for reading and remembering
