On 19th October 2016, baby Jenna Baxter was born at St John's hospital in Livingston .  When she was born she was critically ill and was transferred to the Royal in Edinburgh.  Sadly, on the evening of 20th October Jenna passed away. Her parents, Shelley and Fraser were left devastated.

During this difficult time SANDs Lothian have provided Shelley and Fraser with much needed support and understanding.  SANDs Lothian are a lifeline to bereaved families who have experienced the death of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or soon after birth within the Edinburgh and Lothian's area.  They hold monthly meetings both in Edinburgh and West Lothian. These meetings are open to anyone whether newly bereaved or longer ago. They are  also the only charity in Edinburgh specialising in baby bereavement counselling and can offer free counselling to bereaved parents. SANDs Lothian also help to train midwives and trainee midwives on how to care for parents in hospital whose baby has died.

Sadly in the UK 15 babies die each day through still birth and neonatal death and last year there were about 60 baby deaths in the Lothians area. This number is very high and means families are left devastated each day.  Charities like SANDs Lothian are often unheard of until you or someone close to you suffers the loss of a baby.  

A team of us have decided to climb Ben Nevis for SANDs Lothian in memory of Jenna Baxter.  We want to fund raise as much money as possible for a fantastic charity and also to help raise awareness of the fantastic work they do.
