Story
I'm running the marathon and raising money for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd. And here is the reason why:
My Uncle Neil was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus in the early months of 2011.
He soon underwent chemotherapy followed by a esophagectomy operation.
Soon after, he was diagnosed again with pancreatic cancer and began more courses of chemotherapy.
Unfortunately cancer took its toll on Neil's body making him weaker and weaker. Early December 2012, Neil was cared for at The Hospice of The Good Shepherd, Chester.
I will never forget visiting him at the hospice, feeling upset and angry seeing what cancer was doing to his body slowly taking away his life. But soon after talking to him, it was clear to see the cancer would never take away his soul, kind heart and infectious laugh.
In the early hours of 27th of December 2012, Uncle Neil peacefully passed away at the hospice.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Richards and his sister Lynne Roberts (Mum).
My family can't thank the hospice staff enough for the help and support they provided. This is why I have chosen to run and raise money for The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
