Story
In June 2014 I completed the 1/2 mile Great North Swim in Windermere, on leaving the lake I realised that I had caught the Open Water swimming bug and wanted to do more!
In November 2014 the registration for an event to swim the length of Coniston Water opened, and I entered. So on 5th September 2015 I will be swimming 5 1/4 miles (if I can manage to swim straight!).
So far prior to my swim in Coniston I have completed the following swims.
I completed the 5km Swimathon on 17th April 2015 at Llandudno Swimming Pool as part of my training. This took me 1 hour 41 minutes and 27 seconds.
I have swum 1 mile at the Great North Swim on Saturday 13th June. I completed this swim in 36 minutes and 20 seconds. Over the course of the weekend 3,566 swimmers swam 1 mile. I finished 1,149 overall and 152nd out 513 35 to 39 year olds.
I then swam 1/2 mile on Sunday 14th June and completed this in 17 minutes 12 seconds. Over the weekend 594 swimmers completed the 1/2 mile. I finished 83rd overall and came 2nd out of those swimmers who were aged 35 - 39.
I swam 2 miles at the Big Cotswold Swim on 4th July 2015 at Cotswold Water Park. The water was a very balmy 21 degrees so I went sans wetsuit, in my swimming costume. I completed the 2 miles in 1 hour 6 minutes and 25 seconds, finishing 92nd out of 139.
I completed the 5.25 mile swim in Coniston in 3 hours 52 minutes and 27 seconds. Was a challenging but enjoyable experience.
After this swim I have just signed up to partake in an evening swim of 1,500m at Swan Pool on 26th September.
I am raising money for Cancer Research this year. Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by cancer, be it relative, friend, colleague or acquaintance.
Please sponsor me for my Open Water antics. You can sponsor me for each swim, or for all the swims together.
