For this latest crusade, we have assembled an eclectic mix of youth, age and experience with which to tackle the Berlin Marathon.  With a combined age approaching 275 years (or almost 30 years older than the United States of America), our stable includes: 

- the experienced race horses and front runners.  Mark Raddan and Gareth Williams are both seasoned elite runners with Gareth having completed among many other achievements  7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days and Mark equally accomplished having completed many marathons (including a sub 3 hour), the Comrades and the Two Oceans. 

- Ed, Oliver and Sam who are the new colts on the block with their first marathons are currently training very hard to put down a good time.

- on the cusp of being put out to pasture and comfortably the back markers Nick and Mark P. Nick has come out of one of his many retirements and Mark at the age of 60++ is doing his first and possibly his last marathon!

So what is this all for?  We are running to support an impactful charity, The Eve Appeal where Mel has been a trustee for a number of years.  The Eve Appeal was set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers. The charity has played a crucial role in providing seed funding, core infrastructure funding and project funding in addition to campaigning to raise awareness of women-specific cancers.

The world-leading research that The Eve Appeal funds is ambitious and challenging but the vision is simple: A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers. 

Every day in the UK 58 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die. The Eve Appeal are determined to change this for the future of women everywhere.  But not only for the women but for their partners, their husbands and their friends who are critically affected by these lethal and debilitating diseases.

Despite the current statistic that 40% of women diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer will not survive, gynae cancer research – and specifically funding in our focus on early detection and prevention – is woefully underfunded.

Our research has already achieved major breakthroughs towards improving survival rates of women with gynaecological cancers and by contributing you will enable the ultimate ambition of the research to be achieved.
