Ive Just lost my mum to cancer/
Mum lost her battle to fight cancer April 2014 after a fight of 11 months. She was responding well to Chemotherapy and Radio therapy, however the cancer spread to her brain and the battle was lost....Now im fighting the battle for her!
I was very close to my mother who was an inspiration to me and who gave me strength to fight some personal challenges of my own, which I could have not done without her and simply would not be the person I am today without her.... THANK YOU MUM!!
I intend to fight back by fighting a battle of my own. In September 2016, I intend to travel out to Barcelona in order to take part and complete the world famous Iron Man event.
The event is an endurance Triathlon comprising of a 2.4 mile sea swim, immediately followed by a 112 mile bike ride ,immediately followed by a marathon run of 26.2 miles.
My goal is set for Sept 2016 because I will neked this time to prepare!
I am a member of Lytham St Annes Running Club, so expectantly running is my strongest event, However I have not completed a marathon run since 1986 .
I acquired a taste for triathlon having talked with my fellow runners who have made the transition into triathlon. I have since completed 5 triathlons of a sprint distance which amounts to a 400 metre swim, 18 mile bike and 4 mile run..( I have also never swam outside of a swimming pool in any event!).So you can now hopefully see the enormity of my 'battle' ahead and realise just how high I have set my goal and understand why it so far away.
I intend to complete several events along the way including a further sprint triathlon in May, (St Annes Triathlon) ,followed by my first Olympic distance triathlon in June, (Chester Triathlon)which will consist of my first open water swim (one mile!!!) in the River Dee, followed by a 35 mile bike and a 6.2 mile run.
I hopefully will also compete in at least one open water swim event, a half Iron man event and the London Marathon in preparation.
It is also my intention to publicly acknowledge and thank people who have helped me out on my journey and to update interested party s on my progress as my training continues and intensifies. To share my highs as well as my lows. :) x
