Story
Thank you for visiting. A little about the Cindy Appleyard Foundation, which is an amazing charity, and one I'm very happy to be raising money for.
I became aware of the foundation from my friend Rick Lyons, whose sister Emily set it up in memory of her daughter, Cindy. Cindy died aged just 10 months, after being diagnosed with a condition called mitochondrial trifunctional protein deficiency. This meant Cindy's heart couldn't function without life support, and she died in 2013 while awaiting a heart transplant. She had been in the Freeman hospital in Newcastle, 150 miles from home. Emily and her family relocated to the area, to be as close to Cindy as possible, and faced the prospect of being there for several months.
The foundation was set up to financially support families in a similar situation, who have to leave behind their friends, family, jobs and schools with no notice, to be with their sick child.
I'll be joining a number of runners who are supporting the foundation, please donate what you can.
Thank you.
