Story
Thank you for supporting me to take part in Memory Walk this year and raise much needed funds for Alzheimer's Society.
Both my Grandmothers have and are suffering with Dementia and one of my dear Aunties is now in the early stages of the disease. My decision to finally do the walk, after considering for many years, came after being invited to participate by a friend whose father is, sadly, also suffering with Alzheimers.
My paternal Grandmother passed away a number of years ago but developed the disease reasonably early at 68, which had a devastating effect on the whole family not least her devoted husband, my Grandfather.
My maternal Grandmother, now 91, has been diagnosed with dementia and Alzheimer’s since 2012. Very sadly and suddenly her, equally devoted, husband passed away earlier this year and it has been extremely heart-breaking to watch her forget he is no longer with us on a near daily basis and grieve for him all over again. Our family have now learnt to stop correcting her and prevent her from having to re-live the grief on too regular a basis.
All of the
money I raise will help support people living with dementia and their families,
so your donation will make a huge difference.
Just £50 will pay for someone with dementia to go to a Dementia Café session
every week for a month, where they can meet others, share experiences and feel
less isolated. And the more I raise, the bigger the difference it will make.
