Vi er 3 kvindelige dyrlægestuderende, som skal arbejde frivilligt for Animal Care in Egypt (ACE) fra d. 5. juli til d. 26. juli 2014. Det er en fantastisk mulighed for os at komme ned og hjælpe dyr i nød, samtidig med at vi forhåbentlig også selv får lært en masse.

Dyrehospitalet ACE startede ud som et sted, hvor indbyggerne i Luxor kunne komme og vaske deres hårdtarbejdende dyr. Stedet har nu vokset sig meget større og teamet består nu bl.a. af en engelsk manager, 3 egyptiske dyrlæger og en masse andre. De tilbyder gratis dyrlægebehandlinger til alle; både arbejdsheste og -æsler, kameler, hunde og katte. Dette har gjort en kæmpe forskel for dyrene i Luxor, da turismen, som har været byens vigtigste indtægtskilde, har været meget dalende i de sidste mange år og dyrevelfærd derfor ikke har været en prioritet, selvom de fleste er afhængige af deres dyr for overhovedet at kunne brødføde deres familier. Derfor er det arbejde, som ACE udfører, så vigtigt!
Ud over at tilbyde gratis dyrlægebehandling, kører ACE også et undervisningprogram, hvor over 150 børn om ugen kommer til centeret for at lære om basal dyrepasning og dyrevelfærd for at sikre, at der i fremtiden også vil blive tænkt mere på dyrenes ve og vel.

Vi håber meget, at du har lyst til at hjælpe med at støtte denne fantastiske organisation, som udelukkende lever af deres donationer. Selv små beløb rækker langt:
£10/12 euro  (ca 92 dkr) = sårbehandling af en hest eller et æsel
£20/25 euro (ca 185 dkr) = bedøvelse og smertestillende ved en operation af hest eller æsel
£45/55 euro (ca 410 dkr) = 80 børn kan blive undervist i, hvordan man passer et dyr
£70/85 euro (ca 640 dkr) = ALLE udgifter i én dag i forbindelse med de dyr, der indlagt (op til 25 bokse med 1-2 heste/æsler og op til 30 små dyr)

£150/185 euro (ca 1370 dkr) = mælkeerstatning til et moderløst føl indtil det er gammelt nok til at blive fravænnet

£200/245 euro (ca 1830 dkr)  = ansættelse af en lokal, fuldt uddannet dyrlæge i en hel måned

 

Beløb doneret via denne hjemmeside vil blive sendt direkte til ACE, og man kan bl.a. betale med forskellige visa-kort og PayPal. Donationerne gives i euro, engelske pund eller US dollars.

Thanks for taking time to look at this page. We hope you will consider helping us raising money for ACE before we go to Egypt to volunteer at ACE in July.

We are three female veterinary students from Denmark, who are going to volunteer at Animal Center Egypt from the 5^th of July until the 26^th of July 2014. It is an amazing opportunity for us to get to help working animals in need and we hope to learn a lot from the experience.

The Animal Center started out as a place where the locals could wash their hard working animals. The place has now become a big animal hospital and the team consists of an English manager, 3 full time Egyptian vets and many other people. They offer veterinary care and treatment for free for all the working animals in Luxor as well as the local cats and dogs. This has made a huge difference for all the animals as the tourism, which has always been the main source of income in the area, has almost come to a halt in the past few years. As a consequence of this, the welfare for the animals is very low as the poor people can't afford to take proper care of them.
Besides providing free care and treatment ACE is also running an education program for the local kids. Around 150 kids visit the center every week to learn about animal welfare and how to take proper and loving care of an animal.

The center is run entirely as a charity and we hope you will help us and support them as they really do an amazing job! Even small donations make a big difference, for example: $15 covers the treatment of sores so common on work horses and donkeys and $30 covers the anesthesia for a life saving surgery.
