If you’re on this page, chances are you know either Maggie or Theo and have already pre-determined that they’re both nuts. 

We’re participating in the 2013 edition of the Lanka Challenge, which is a tuk tuk ‘challenge’ (think Amazing Race!) across the beautiful island of Sri Lanka for 13 days, covering approximately 1500 kms in total. On each leg of the journey, we’ll be completing a set task, but the main journey will be just getting to the destination in one piece. Our tuk tuk will most likely break down, tip over, and we may come back with battle scars but we’ll definitely have some stories to tell.

Even if we end up bruised and broken, we’d like to know that it was worth it and would like to ask for your help to support Rebuilding Sri Lanka. In 2004, a tsunami killed over 40,000 people in Sri Lanka and displaced 500,000 more, in addition to affected citizens in other neighboring countries in the Indian Ocean. Many of Sri Lanka’s coastal villages were completely destroyed and many people left homeless or destitute. Rebuilding Sri Lanka is an organization that continues to help provide housing, education, medical services and rehabilitation to these communities.

We want to ask your help to contribute to Rebuilding Sri Lanka so we can continue to encourage meaningful travel initiatives and ensure that the local communities and environments can be preserved – we’d like future tuk-tukkers (and non tuk-tukkers!) to have the same opportunity to experience and enjoy Sri Lanka as we will have.
