Story
Since late February, intense heavy bombing has been devastating towns and cities in Ukraine, resulting in huge numbers of civilian casualties.
It is estimated that over 24 million people are now in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.
8 million people are estimated to be displaced within Ukraine, many seeking shelter in crowded and often ill-adapted public buildings, including schools and metro stations. Over 7 million people have fled across the border into neighbouring countries.
Horrified and distressed at the ongoing crisis, members of Hawarden Tennis Club are hosting a 24-hour tennis marathon event on Friday 1st through to Saturday 2nd July. Tennis players are invited from far and wide, to join us in supporting our efforts to raise money for the Red Cross Ukraine Appeal. Of course, donations to this Justgiving page are welcome not just from the participants, but also from non-players, supporters, businesses and individuals from the world over.
Red Cross teams have been working around the clock to get critical care to those who need it most, both in Ukraine and its bordering countries. With ongoing violence, an enormous number of people urgently need help right now.
As the security situation allows, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will continue to respond to existing and emerging humanitarian needs. The Red Cross has supported people affected by this conflict for years and this will not stop now.
As a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid can allow the Red Cross to claim back 25p of tax for every £1 you give. All of the monies raised in this fundraising campaign will be passed to the Red Cross for the Ukraine Crisis Appeal.
Your donation will help the Red Cross reach more people.
