Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2016 I started working for a care company and supporting an individual with severe epilepsy. I became this person's Key Worker a year later, a further year later I became Deputy Manager of the home and a year after that I became Registered Manager of the home.

In this time I have spent a lot of time supporting the individual achieve new things and learning that despite having severe epilepsy, with the correct support and attitude - the opportunities for anybody diagnosed with epilepsy are vast.

The ethos of the Epilepsy Society places an onus on individualised support for each individual and not one person us the same and therefore nor is the approach to their support and care. The person is at the centre of everything and epilepsy takes a back seat.

This individual is now very poorly and it has motivated me to turn my running hobby into something positive. I started running properly when Covid broke out back in 2020, doing Couch to 5K and carrying on beyond that. 7 Months into my new hobby I ran the Indian Queens Half Marathon, my first ever race and it was gruelling. Moving to a hill-ridden route due to covid restrictions meaning it had to be be moved from its usual, much flatter route.

I've completed 3 Half Marathons since I started. I now plan on doing 3 in 3 months and hope to beat my existing PB of 2:02:14 and get a sub-2 hour time in.

This task starts with things coming full circle with the Indian Queens Half Marathon on Sunday 7th August (returning to its flatter, PB-friendly route, thank god!) moving on to Truro Half on Sunday 18th September and culminating in the (I can only imagine) painfully hilly Eden Project Half Marathon on Sunday 16th October.
