Thank you for taking the time to read our story and supporting the cause;

The Three Peak challenge is an arduous one, it involves walking the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales in just 24 hours.  Every week we (the Team) get together  (hungover or not) to train for this mammoth undertaking, many of us not experienced walkers and not really outdoors types.  The thing that keeps us going is the belief; The Christie is an important charity that has helped the ones we love and the ones we have lost.

Early in 2012 Mikes dad Bill was diagnosed with bowel cancer, he had an ileostomy to remove the affected tissue and allow the bowel a normal function. Unfortunately Bill got a serious infection which took 5 and a half months to fully heal. Later in 2013 it was discovered the cancer had spread to Bills liver. Under the guidance and support of Christies part of the affected organ was removed. It was a very difficult time made easier by the amazing care of the organisation. 

Chemotherapy led to further problems when it killed off white blood cells, and it was then discovered cancer had spread to the healthy part of Bills liver, his treatment remains on-going, and he is still under the care of Christies.

As if this wasn’t bad enough Mikes mum Jan was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2013. In November 2013 Jan had part of her breast removed, and again with treatment and the fantastic support of Christies, radiotherapy treatment was necessary to ensure cancer was fully gone, Jan is now fortunately in remission.

Each of us doing the Three Peak Challenge has been affected by cancer, many of us not lucky enough to have had the support from The Christie, which Mike, Jan and Bill all agree without their support and attention, a difficult time would have been a living nightmare.

We want to help support this amazing service and not only ensure they are able to continue their amazing work but also help them financially continue research to eventually combat this horrible disease. Everyone of us is affected by Cancer, whether its a close relative or a friend, I know we all have been and what better way to say thanks.
