Story
We both work for Oxfam GB and are keen to go that bit further in helping build brighter futures for our beneficiaries throughout the world. With the on-going impact of Covid, climate change and poverty, it's clear that those in developing countries are struggling more than ever.
We realised that as we're each other's shadows more often than not, we should put that to good use and pair up our time together with trying to help individuals cement stronger, self-sufficient futures for themselves and the generations that follow them.
We want to do this by raising money to buy farms at a cost of £250 each.
We spend so much of our time travelling between Shropshire and Glasgow (our respective homes) that we decided to channel our inner Proclaimers and walk from door-to-door. With two of us walking the 250 mile stretch over 1 week - together we will walk 500 miles!
Oxfam's Unwrapped range effectively allows people to fund specific projects ensuring their donations are given to the cause of their choice. We have therefore decided that "Fantastic Farms" is a great way to give those in need the opportunity to learn new skills and apply them to sustainable and income-generating work - meaning that they're not reliant on charity donations for the long-term. The sense of independence, achievement and pride is second to none and gives the recipient of the "Fantastic Farm" a life changing opportunity.
The Fantastic Farm could do anything from provide a farmer with tools, give training to individuals, buy poverty-busting seedlings or help to enhance farmers' abilities to raise animals or grow more crops.
Anything you can give towards this would be much appreciated.
We will walk 500 miles!
