Story

With lockdown easing and things starting to open back up, Andy and I have decided to put down our beer bottles and don our running trainers to try and complete one of the hardest challenges we've faced - we both aim to run 5k EVERY DAY IN MAY! And what better way to start it than in our home town!

Even though Andy is in Port Glasgow and I'm based in Liverpool, we both thought that the most deserving charity for our fundraising would be Ardgowan Hospice, based in Greenock, Scotland. Since 1981, the hospice has supported the community of Inverclyde by providing free care and support to patients and their families, whether it be for COPD, cancer, end of life care or help with grief and loss. As the hospice provides free care, it therefore has to rely on receiving over 60% of its funding from kind people like yourselves that will hopefully help us with a couple of quid here and there.

From a personal point of view, my own grandfather, or pop as I call him, has received some help from the fantastic volunteers at Ardgowan Hospice. Owing to the support they provided to my pop and my family, the hospice has since been a favourite charity of my gran, Elizabeth Mitchell (known locally as "wee Betty"), who sadly passed away with lung cancer in September 2020.

Andy then suggested this challenge to me (which I laughed at at first!), but then he suggested we do our running for Ardgowan Hospice in memory of "wee Betty", which meant the world to me.

So without further ado, let the challenge of 5k a Day in May commence!
