In memory of Ryan Tolley

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.  ACPI are raising money in memory of Ryan Tolley.

Ryan was a fun loving and very talented young man who loved life and lived for drama and theatre, he was a popular student at The King Edmund School and went on to study at SEC, his dream was to go on stage in London and or become a teacher of drama. He had many friends who loved his sense fun and his very caring nature.

In 2009 he was diagnosed with leukemia and his dreams were taken away from him overnight he fought long and hard and went into remission in 2010 .He started back at college in September of that year even though he was still recovering only to be struck down again in December of the same year.

Throughout his battle his bravery was second to none and he never felt sorry for himself only for his family and friends who were watching him battle, this may sound unbelievable from someone who was diagnosed at the tender age of 19 but is true and remained this way to the very end.

The Ryan Tolley leukemia Trust Fund was set up after Ryan died of leukaemia in December 2011, after fighting a 2 year battle. Ryan had asked just before he died if we could set up a charity as a legacy to help those like him and his family to cope financially and also bring some comfort. We aim to help individuals, families and small organisations with the cost of specialist equipment or treatment as well as helping with short breaks or getaways as a small release to the constant battle to cope and fight with this terrible disease.

We have raised in the last year and half over £15,000 through various fund raising events such as a pier walk which was the start of the fundraising in February 2012 with the staff of the Elizabeth Loury Ward walking for Ryan. Ryan spent his last few weeks in this wonderful ward where the staff are one step away from being angels. It was Ryan's wish to raise money to help this ward and the charity have donated 6 portable DVD players and a large amount of DVDs for the patients and families. The Ryan Tolley leukemia Trust Fund have promised to carry on supporting this ward in any way they can so as to bring some comfort to patients and family as they battle with cancer.

Other fund raising events includes a summer fete, quiz night and recently afternoon tea, all in the village where Ryan grew up, this raised a substantial amount of money which has gone towards helping individuals and 2 hospices with specialist equipment.

The volunteers of the charity are Ryan's family and friends who endeavour to carry on raising money to help others that are battling with cancer and their dream is to eventually set up a support group and a building where especially young cancer patients and families can go to get some respite from the disease. There are hospices for the younger age group but nowhere for the 18yrs and upwards.
