Story
As most of you know St Catherine’s Hospice is and has been the centre of our world and our family for a long time now.
On Monday I was sitting within the lovely grounds of the hospice waiting for an appointment with a wonderful child Councillor and Jake spotted a leaflet about doing the Sussex hike. We chatted about why the hospice sadly doesn’t always have the money to do what they need for all the sick people. Jake immediately decided we should do it and Nanny would have loved a long walk in the countryside. The care at the hospice is a wonderful team effort from the medical team to the wonderful nurses, the wonderful therapy team and their amazing massages. The fab coffee shop that kept us going day and night. The children benefitted from the play room and being able to escape the tears and pain some days. Even the cat spike! Jake and I left on Monday after lighting a candle for Nanny and our wonderful friend Suzanne Pendrill who is missed every day, and feeling positive about this challenge so more people can receive this amazing care that we have had.
Jake and all of our children have had a horrendous year and the heartbreak still continues. Nanny sadly passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family after being an in-patient at the hospice. During this time Grandad became seriously sick with life threatening throat cancer, the hospice and the hospital both worked together to enable them to spend as much time together as possible.
Grandad is now at home and himself and the family are getting the most amazing care and support to enable him to stay as home and receive the care and love he needs to spend his precious time in the comfort of his home.
Grief for our family is ongoing and hard as our journey still continues and we continue to hold each other tight and make each day count.
Please find some time to read our story and donate to an amazing charity, let’s help Jake find something positive amongst so much pain and heartbreak. We miss Nanny and Grandad and making all those memories that we will treasure forever.
So proud of you Jake xx
