On 25th July 2019 I am having my head shaved in memory of my husband John to support the work of the unit in the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he was cared for so well and to raise awareness of the disease which killed him.  In the Spring of 2017 John was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus.  In an effort to save his life he underwent months of chemotherapy and a massive operation.  While this greatly improved the quality of John's life, the cancer returned and John died on the 7th of January 2019.  John was remarkable throughout.  He carried on with life as normally as he could for as long as he could and he made it his aim to help other people undergoing treatment for cancer.  He received the most amazing care in the RVI.  The Northern Oesophago Gastric Cancer Fund directly supports the work of the unit and pays for life saving equipment for patients like John.  The 25th July is John's birthday and raising money for other cancer sufferers is my birthday present to my wonderful husband.  Thank you so very much for your support.  Please do come along on the 25th July at 2pm to witness the head shave, share refreshments and celebrate John's birthday with me.  Location is Mercedes-Benz, City West Business Park, Scotswood Road, Newcastle NE4 7DF.
