Amanda was diagnosed with triple negative Breast Cancer in May 2010 and finally lost her brave fight on the 13 February 2012 in the Princess Alice Hospice after nearly a two year battle.

Our involvement with the Princess Alice began at the terminal diagnosis stage when the Royal Marsden made a referral, which in hindsight was the most positive thing that could have happened to us. They immediately made a difference by changing Amanda’s drug regime to a simpler one and getting us access to financial help that we were not previously aware of. The assignment to us of care workers that quickly became firm friends was the icing on the cake..!

After all the pain, suffering and indignity that she had to endure throughout the treatment process of operations, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, the day that she transferred into the Alice was such a relief to her. It gave her back her dignity and allowed her to die in peace and calm.

The staff at the Hospice soon came to learn that Amanda was never interested in herself and wanted only to chat to people about themselves. It wasn’t long before Nurses would just be dropping in to see how she was and find things to do in the room. The lack of rules and visiting times meant that Amanda, Katie, Adam and I (along with a host of visitors) could spend as much time together as we wanted to which meant so much to all of us. It wasn’t a rare thing to find Amanda with family and friends at gone ten in the evening with takeaways around the bed!

Amanda was so concerned that the Alice was charity funded and wanted to put back as much as possible to repay the kindness and care that she was shown throughout her stay by every member of staff that she came into contact with, so please make a donation.
