I'm doing this for a very simple reason - every child should grow up in a loving family.

But there are 8 million children growing up in orphanages around the world.

These places have a profoundly damaging effect on their lives - in some orphanages, mortality rates are as high as 80%. As adults, children who grow up in orphanages are 10 times more likely to be involved in prostitution; 40 times more likely to have a criminal record and 500 times more likely to commit suicide.

But there's good news!

The charity Hope and Homes for Children closes orphanages by finding high quality, family-based care for vulnerable children. And it's working - the world is waking up to the fact that orphanages are unnecessary, expensive and damaging.
