Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This is Alice Brinkhurst our lovely Daughter and sister to Gary and Steven.

After years of having a heart condition she died in March 2016 aged 29.

During her life she gave so much in the way she lived her life, always smiling, putting things into perspective by her one liners. Doing the collecting herself from her wheelchair on Bonfire night, for various charities over many years.

She had a real zest for life, visiting many places in the world and living life to the full meeting many household names. Alice was a popular young lady, being small in stature but huge in character.

At her funeral around 600 people attended and donated over £3000. Alice had such brilliant care on the cardiac wards at the RSCH and as a family we though it appropriate to donate it to the Sussex Heart Charity buying two defibrillators, one for near the Lewes Football club, where her younger brother Steven plays and one outside the Winterbourne shop in Lewes near where live. Where every Tuesday, Alice would toddle down to get her Inside Soap magazine.

However during the night of the 7th October, the defibrillator was taken out of its cabinet and taken to the Winterbourne recreation ground, was vandalised and then thrown over the wall into the area where the Winterbourne stream would normally flow, luckily there hasn’t been enough rain and it was dry and we were able to at least retrieve the bits.

These vital life saving pieces of equipment cost around £800 and although the Sussex Heart charity are replacing it this week, it will still cost the charity the money to provide that though. This is money that is depriving being able to provide another defibrillator somewhere else.

We are hoping that we can prove via CCTV who it was that did this mindless act, and make them pay for it over time if not in full immediately. Many people on Facebook and social media have already
offered money to get this back in place quickly and so are appealing now to get this back in place plus a lockable cabinet which have recently come onto the market.

With many thanks for everyone’s support already.

Angela, Paul, Gary and Steven Brinkhurst
