Story

London Marathon Sponsorship

I decided to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSHCC) after my son’s friend Matt, received treatment there.

As a normal, healthy 14 year old, Matt contracted an infection which caused his lungs to deteriorate and in 2007 he received a lung transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

My son met Matt in 2010 at an exciting time in their lives when they became students at York University and found themselves in the same hall of residence. They started their 2nd year as a group of students sharing a house but unfortunately during that year, Matt’s condition started to deteriorate.  Adam lost his friend in October 2012.

Many of Matt’s friends have made testament to him being a “creative, fun, mentally agile person” who: “never let it stop him getting on with life, living every day to the absolute max”. By meeting and knowing Matt, the lives of his friends have been enriched.

During his life Matt raised considerable sums for GOSH.  He wanted to ensure that future transplantees would have a longer life expectancy than he did and so this fund will be specifically directed to fund research in the transplant unit.

I am hoping that by raising funds to support further research and treatment others might have an improved life expectancy.  If you aren’t able to sponsor me, you may wish to subscribe to become an organ donor.  That costs nothing.

thank you, Alison
