Story
To all of you i want to say a big thank you in advance.
We all have lots of wonderful friends, who do some amazing things for some wonderful causes, so i appreciate you making the time to give to give some of your hard earned cash to a fat lass in lycra, dragging herself around the streets of London!
On the 24th April i will be running the London Marathon for the National Brain Appeal. Now, those of you that know me well know that i am no sporty spice. This was not on some bucket list. And if i'm honest i really do not like running.
So why am i doing it?
I am doing it because in 2014 a very brave woman, a miraculous Mummy and my wonderful friend, lost her long battle with a brain tumour. Her name was Penny Boylan and i know i am biased, but she really was, one in a million. Along with her husband James and her family, she was a staunch supporter of The National Brain Appeal and the wonderful work they do and over the years, she and James, raised over £100,000 to help fund the UK's first Brain Tumour unit, organising Charity Dinners, running 10ks, half Marathon's and even devoting their Wedding List, to raising funds and buying equipment for the hospital (like i said, she was one in a million and James comes a close second!).
So, i want to continue to raise funds for a cause that was so close to her heart and in doing so, i desperately hope that we can help to raise enough funds to ensure that one day, other men and women will not have to be as brave as she was.
As i reluctantly trudge out into the rain for my long run this Sunday and every Sunday until race day, i do so safe in the knowledge that she would be smiling with one of her eye brows arched skywards, a wagging finger and a look of "Go on, no excuses, you can do it, get out there!" and that will be enough to get me through the miles and home again because she never gave up and i am buggered if i'm going to, no matter how much it hurts!
So please give generously, your money really will make a difference to someone's diagnosis, their treatment and their rehabilitation.
Thank you
Aly x
