Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for Ronald McDonald House Oxford.

As many of you may know following a tragic accident our amazing little boy Edward lost his life on the 17th April 2015 ages only 22 months old. Following his accident he was taken to The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he spent his time truly fighting. The one thing that mattered to us during this time was having the whole family together and being by Edwards side no matter what. Having 2 other children ( Oliver aged 4 and  Thomas aged only 11 weeks) we really didnt know what we would do and simply assumed we would get our heads down in the hospital corridors or maybe find a hotel close by taking turns to be at Edwards bedside. Ronald McDonald House Oxford took this extra worry away, providing us what can only be described as an ensuit hotel style room in the hospital. Not only that but the faciltys included a kitchen, TV room, Playroom and many home comforts.  Most of all it meant that no matter what we could be right by Edward and have the whole family with us to support each other and to be with him. While a room and a shower may not seem much without this we would have been lost. It kept some normality for the other children who could still have a bedtime, watch tv, take a shower and even gave us a few hours sleep when it was needed.

The brain damage Edward had sustained left him with little chance of survival  and no chance of any quality of life had he survived. The only way to find out his outcome was to let him go it alone and so on the advice of an amazing team of doctors, we made the decision to  turn off his his life support. On the 17th April 2015 his machines where turned off. Our amazing strong boy still tried to fight and continued to breath for some time after. We spent this time holding him in our arms untill his last breath and for some time after.

While the outcome  of Edwards time in the JR is not what we had hoped for we are endlessly thankful for the amazing doctors, nurses, play specialists,  parishioners, councillors,
cleaners and everyone who helped us during this time.

I have chosen to raise this money for the RMHC Oxford because without them we could not have been by his side as a family in those final days. This services is one that i truly believe all hospitals need but without this amazing charity non of the rooms would be available. We are forever thank you for the amazing facilities they provide and for giving us all as a family a home away from home during the very worst time of our life.

This cycle is in the memory of my beautiful Edward who we miss every second of the day. We will never stop missing you little boy and i will always make sure you are in the thoughts of many.

So to give a little back to RMH Oxford and in the name of Edward Warner-Simpson I am going to be riding my trusty bike from London - Paris. The ride will take place over 4 days  and take
nearly 500km. Plase give as much or as little as you can both to remember Edward and for this amazing charity.
