Event: London Marathon 2018, on 22 April 2018
In memory of Prakash Patel
Our incredible #teamcardio runners will be taking to the streets of London to participate in the spectacular Virgin London Marathon 2018 to raise vital funds for Cardiomyopathy UK.

Story

I am running the 2019 London Marathon (deferred from 2018 due to injury) for Cardiomyopathy UK in memory of my wife’s brother, Prakash (pictured above with his niece and nephew) who died suddenly on 26th April 2017 aged 41 of a condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy that he was unaware of. His father also died at similar age of heart related condition which we now believe to be Cardiomyopathy.

Prakash was a loving son, brother, husband and father to two beautiful daughters aged 9 and 3. He had a passion for cars from a very young age and loved his gadgets. He treasured his car and no one ever recalled seeing it dirty nor even seeing the odd sweet or crisp wrapper left by his daughters. If you needed any advice on cars, home entertainment or technology everyone would call Prakash.

Prakash’s sudden death has devastated a close-knit family who has since been seeking answers to his untimely loss. This quest for answers led us to Cardiomyopathy UK: http://www.cardiomyopathy.org

Cardiomyopathy is a disease of the heart muscle. It isn’t a single condition, but a group of conditions that affect the structure of the heart and reduce its ability to pump blood around the body. It affects people of all ages including babies. It is often inherited and is the number one medical cause of sudden death in young adults.

It is thought to affect around 160,000 people in the UK, which is around 1 in 500 people.

Please help me raise essential funds for Cardiomyopathy UK, the money raised will be used to raise awareness, improve diagnosis and management of the condition and promote medical research.

Donations will also go towards providing information and support to those affected by the condition as well as training for doctors and nurses. With early detection, we can stop the sudden death of many people.

Although I have already completed a few half marathons, the London Marathon is going to be the biggest physical challenge of my life. The thought of having to complete 26.2 miles on April 28th is daunting.

I fully understand if you have already donated to another runner or support other charities and are unable to sponsor me but please take a few minutes to visit the Cardiomyopathy UK website.

Thank you for supporting both the charity and myself in this adventure.
