In memory of Rosie Whitaker
We support young people at risk of suicide to stay safe and find hope in times of need

Story

I am running the Shrewsbury full marathon on June 23rd 2013 in loving memory of my cousin Rosie Whitaker. It's coming up to a year without Rosie, we miss her so dearly.  Me and Rosie grew up together as children and she was more like a little sister than a little cousin. Our family and friends have already raised over £12,000 for PAPYRUS and i want to continue raising money to raise awareness of the problem in the UK. People who know me will realise what a massive achievment completing a marathon will be and i know for sure that running a Marathon will make Rosie very proud.

Before the loss of Rosie i was unaware of the huge presence of young suicide in the UK. "Suicide is the most common cause of death in young people under the age of 35 in the UK." We don't want any other family to go what we have been through, so hopefully something positive can come from this tragedy. And we can continue to raise awareness of the charity PAPYRUS.

Rosie was a popular, beautiful girl who brought joy to everyone through her various talents, including dancing and performing at the Royal Opera House, diving, writing poetry and piano playing. She was also an army cadet.

Having run the 5K Race for Life for Cancer Research UK and the Adidas Women's 5K challenge for the NSPCC, Rosie was very enthusiastic about raising money for good causes. She also planned to help others in the future, so any donations in her memory will help this kind, caring girl achieve her wish.

For most of her life, she was very happy and well-loved, so her sudden and tragic death has left a huge hole in many lives. We don't want any other family to go what we have been through, so hopefully something positive can come from this tragedy. By donating to Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide, you can help raise awareness of suicide prevention and save young lives.

By donating to Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide, you can help raise awareness of suicide prevention and save young lives. We want young people with emotional problems to realise there are places they can go to for positive help instead of visiting harmful websites that encourage destructive behaviour.

Our aim is to raise awareness so that teachers, parents and young people are able to detect the warning signs. Papyrus offers help and advice to individuals as well as schools, colleges and universities.
