Story
At the age of 8 ½, nearly 3 years ago, I was suffering from occasional sore stomachs – like someone was squeezing me inside. I visited my doctor, but we thought I might just be worrying about stuff and that was causing my sore tummy. However, my sore tummy started to get worse and I went back to my doctor just before I was 10. After a few tests and seeing a special doctor at the hospital, it was confirmed I had coeliac disease.
Coeliac UK has been really helpful for me. We joined not long after I was diagnosed and my dad has the app on his phone which is really good for looking up places, if we want to eat out somewhere, and to check foods when in the supermarkets - not everything that's Gluten Free is marked as being GF! My mum says the Food and Drink Directory is really good too to help her look up things if she's not sure whether I can eat something or not, and also for checking which supermarkets sell gluten free things.
Now that I am 11 I'd like to give back to Coeliac UK for all the help and support they are giving to people like me so they can keep helping others who are struggling with coeliac disease. Of course, it has to be a challenge so cycling 175 miles seems to be a good place to start!
