We were going on a road trip anyway. One that we originally hoped would take us to Morocco. It's been planned for years. Then Covid and now the horror of war in Europe.

Ukraine made us realise how lucky we are. Some had asked us if we were fundraising whilst we do this driving challenge in a London taxi, and the answer was always "No". It's a holiday, it's fun, we are going anyway. But.... then... Ukraine. 

I'm sure many of us are already troubled by what we've seen in the news. Ukraine and Kyiv are just like many of our tour destinations. Another European city, another cultural place to explore, museums, monuments, a zoo, and now.... Devastation, fighting and terror.

Despite this, we in the UK have complete freedom. Our trip is paid for, we were going anyway, but now it feels right for Betty (our taxi) to now be showing that we are "with" Ukraine on our trip, and we want to encourage people to donate to charities helping the people of Ukraine who desperately need help, as we travel through France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Andorra, Spain, Portugal, Ceuta, Gibraltar from 3 June to 18 June 2022. 

So if you can, please give your support to Ukraine as we embark on our quest. None of your donation money goes to us or towards the costs of our trip, it all goes to DEC (but it you choose to allow it, some of your donation might help Just Giving's operational costs).

Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country, causing hundreds of thousands to flee. Homes have been destroyed or are unsafe to live in. Essential services have been hit. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost.DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries. They are working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care. Every pound donated by the UK public will be matched by the UK Government up to £20 million*. £30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month. £50 could provide blankets for 4 families to keep them warm. £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month
