Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've always wanted to run a marathon but have thus far been unable to pluck up the courage to enter, so what better a year than this to do it!

Another reason for running the marathon is to raise money for an awesome charity; Epilepsy Research UK.

For those of you who do not know, my flatmate and friend of many years Siobhan Lucket sadly passed away due to a SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) just hours before her 21st birthday so it would be amazing to raise some money for such an amazing charity that strives to do valuable research into the causes, treatments and prevention of epilepsy.

Here's some information about Epilepsy Research UK.

"Epilepsy Research UK supports the work of scientists and clinicians throughout the UK, who are investigating all aspects of epilepsy in both adults and children. They are especially looking at what causes epilepsy, who gets it, what goes on in the brain during a seizure, and safer drugs and better surgical techniques to treat it.

Our funds support individual students and scientists based in university departments, medical schools and hospitals across the country. They also allow academic institutions to invest in much-needed equipment.

In addition, Epilepsy Research UK arranges technical workshops and scientific meetings to encourage collaboration between researchers. We work closely with other epilepsy charities to ensure that epilepsy is recognised in Government health and social care policy.

Developments in drug therapy and medical scanning, along with major breakthroughs in the study of the human genome, mean that great progress has been made in understanding the causes of epilepsy in recent years. These are exciting times in epilepsy research and Epilepsy Research UK is proud to be supporting some of the key researchers in the UK, who are pushing forward our knowledge of epilepsy. Even greater advances will be made in the coming years and the research that we fund will be at the forefront of developments to control, and perhaps even cure, epilepsy."

Please donate as much or as little as you can as every pound will be used to aid this wonderful charity.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I've never taken part in a marathon before so this should be an experience...and probably a painful one, so please dig deep lets raise lots of money for a very worthy cause.

Much love and thank you's in advance!

Calum xxx

PS I'll be tweeting throughout my training so add me on @ca1um to follow my progress as I train and also while running the marathon itself (hopefully) x
