Story
Following Dad's enucleatation for the Cancer found in his eye the treatment he received was coordinated by the Gibraltar Health Authority (GHA) where he had a great team working with him.
When Dad was diagnosed with liver metastasis at a scan in April 2021. Dad was put in contact with the Gib Cancer Relief, who provided him with support right through to the end of his life. I was something we know he appreciated during his last months.
The centre provides a range of therapeutic therapies, services and social activities, with a great team of nurses and volunteers. Dad spoke fondly of those he met here, and particularly enjoyed the massages and council available to him. It was also thanks to the team at Gib Cancer Relief that we were about to arrange Mum & Dad's wedding in such short notice, with their help putting us in contact with the correct people to do this.
Devastatingly, when it was clear Dad's treatment hadn't worked, the Gib Cancer Relief team were frequent visitors to Dad's hospital room, providing him with comfort and assistant whenever needed - even checking on all of us visiting Dad, there were also in contact with Mum in the weeks following.
Gibraltar really was a second home to Dad, and he was so lucky to be able to access this service and spoke so warmly about everyone there that he encountered. We want to say thank you to the team and all the volunteers for all the comfort they provided Dad when he needed it most!
